A Rugby Club Built Around People
Old Georgians RFC is a community-focused rugby club in Surrey built on a simple belief: rugby should be competitive, welcoming and genuinely enjoyable.
We are proud of the standard we play at, but we are equally proud of the environment we’ve created around it. For us, success isn’t measured only in league tables. It’s measured in consistency, culture and the feeling players have when they walk through the clubhouse doors.
For many people searching for a rugby club in Surrey, what they’re really asking is: Will I feel comfortable here? Will I get a fair opportunity? Will I enjoy it?
That's what this club is, and has always been, about.
What Defines Old Georgian’s Rugby Club?
-
We describe our approach as casual competitiveness.
On the pitch, we are organised, structured and ambitious. We prepare properly. We expect effort. We compete hard. The standard is strong and we take pride in representing the shirt properly.
Off the pitch, the atmosphere is relaxed and grounded. There is no ego-driven hierarchy and no unnecessary intensity.
It’s competitive rugby in Surrey without the pressure that can sometimes overshadow enjoyment.
-
Some clubs are teams. We are a community.
Our player group spans different ages, professions and backgrounds, yet the culture is consistent: inclusive, supportive and straightforward. Whether someone joins straight from university, relocates from another part of the country, or returns to rugby after several seasons out, they find a place quickly.
The clubhouse is central to that. Matchdays don’t end at the final whistle. Conversations continue, stories are shared, and relationships form that extend beyond the game itself.
What underpins it all is the fact that the club is run by its own people. Old Georgians is led by current and former players, all contributing on a voluntary basis – organising fixtures, managing teams and keeping the club moving week to week. That shared responsibility creates a stronger sense of ownership and connection, and helps ensure the culture remains grounded, welcoming and true to what the club stands for.
That sense of belonging is deliberate. It doesn’t happen by accident, it comes from clear standards, good organisation and people who care about protecting the culture.
-
As an amateur rugby club in Surrey, we recognise that players have careers, families and responsibilities outside the sport.
Our structure reflects that reality. We prioritise commitment, communication and availability on matchday. When players make themselves available and contribute to the group, they are part of the team. That clarity removes the politics that can exist elsewhere and ensures people feel involved rather than peripheral.
The result is a club that feels stable, organised and well-run, without becoming corporate or over-engineered.
-
At its best, amateur rugby gives you three things: competition, camaraderie and continuity.
We compete at a level that challenges players and rewards effort. We create an environment where Saturdays feel purposeful rather than pressured. And we build relationships that last well beyond a single season.
If you’re looking for a rugby club in Surrey with a good atmosphere, where enjoyment and standards sit side by side, Old Georgians offers that balance.
