On the pitch, we are organised, structured and ambitious. We prepare properly. We expect effort. We compete hard. The standard is strong and we take pride in representing the shirt properly.

Off the pitch, the atmosphere is relaxed and grounded. There is no ego-driven hierarchy and no unnecessary intensity.

Our player group spans different ages, professions and backgrounds, yet the culture is consistent: inclusive, supportive and straightforward. Whether someone joins straight from university, relocates from another part of the country, or returns to rugby after several seasons out, they find a place quickly.

The clubhouse is central to that. Matchdays don’t end at the final whistle. Conversations continue, stories are shared, and relationships form that extend beyond the game itself.

What underpins it all is the fact that the club is run by its own people. Old Georgians is led by current and former players, all contributing on a voluntary basis – organising fixtures, managing teams and keeping the club moving week to week. That shared responsibility creates a stronger sense of ownership and connection, and helps ensure the culture remains grounded, welcoming and true to what the club stands for.

That sense of belonging is deliberate. It doesn’t happen by accident, it comes from clear standards, good organisation and people who care about protecting the culture.

As an amateur rugby club in Surrey, we recognise that players have careers, families and responsibilities outside the sport.

Our structure reflects that reality. We prioritise commitment, communication and availability on matchday. When players make themselves available and contribute to the group, they are part of the team. That clarity removes the politics that can exist elsewhere and ensures people feel involved rather than peripheral.
